3. Bushbuck Camp, Sedgefield - Eastern Cape
This one is definitely for the kids! There is a wonder of activities ready for you to enjoy from the get go - and you don't even need to set up your tent. Bushbucks have their own free-standing tents set up already. Travellers should also know that pets can stay for free.
All you need to do is pitch up, drop your bags and enjoy the surroundings. You can braai, cook and lounge about outside for as long as you like.

4. Scotia Camp - KwaZulu-Natal
Scotia Camp is a 20-bed tented safari that can be enjoyed as a self-catering getaway or a catered getaway.
It is situated in the Sonkhanda Game Reserve looking over the riverbed. If you are looking for a crowd pleaser - this is the ideal place for the whole family, aunties, uncles and cousins included.

5. Fiddlers Creek Campsite - Orange River, Northern Cape
Fiddlers offers you access to the Orange River with a difference. Nestled on the border of South Africa and Namibia, with the Orange River flowing in between.
Campers can enjoy setting up camp at one of the fourteen grassed campsites along the river. Each site offers an undercover kitchen, basins and running water, braai areas as well as power points.
The main attraction of Fiddlers is the option of river rafting on various day trips.

6. Madikwe Game Reserve Eco Bush Camp - North West
Located in the centre of the reserve, the eco camp is an unfenced piece of land with nine little log cabins to cook and dine in. Set up your tent on the grass and enjoy access to shower and toilet facilities.

7. Buffelspoort - Gauteng
The Buffelspoort campsite is less than an hour away from Johannesburg. The camping site is tucked in the middle of the little valley and is shaded by trees.
It is an ATKV resort, which means it is very much slanted toward an Afrikaans-speaking market. As with many of these kinds of resort, there is a fully-fledged waterpark as well as a full range of facilities including everything from a hair dresser to a bottle store.
Bare in mind that the campsite does get busy, so book early to avoid disappointment. It has numerous swimming pools, super-tubes and fun activities to keep everyone in the family entertained.

8. Waterberg Wilderness Reserve - Limpopo
Just two hours away from Johannesbur, the reserve is located in the rich wildlife area of SA. It is rugged and untouched and the preferred way to get to it is by 4x4.
The camp sits between two gorges looking over the hills and valleys. Guests can stay at one of the three campsites available.
Price: 3 x campsites with shared ablutions – R130 per adult per day and R65 per child per day.

9. Glen Reenen Campsite, Golden Gates Highlands National Park - Free State
The rest camp is located near the Golden Gate Hotel and chalets. It is ideal for nature lovers to get a feel for the wild and take everything back to basics. Bring your tents, turn off all your appliances and just chill around the braai.

10. Karoo National Park - Beaufort West
