of traffic in and around the city bowl, as well as certain MyCiTi bus routes.
The State of the Nation Address and the Opening of Parliament takes place at 19:00 on Thursday 11 February 2016 and will see road closures put into effect mostly in the central business district, in a reworked route expected to minimise impact on commuters, the City said.
Rehearsals for the event will also see road closures on Tuesday 9 February and Wednesday 10 February 2016 from 17:00 onwards.
A detailed breakdown of the closures/restrictions and deviations as detailed on the City’s website is as follows - or click on the map below for details of times and roads closed:
The road closures would affect the normal flow of traffic in and around the city bowl, Newlands and the M3 and N2 city-bound lanes. As such, road users are asked to plan their routes accordingly. Road users travelling from the east side of the city towards Vredehoek and Gardens, as well as those travelling into town along the N2, Nelson Mandela Boulevard, the M3 and De Waal Drive would be the most affected, the city said.
Residents are advised that extensive parking restrictions will be in effect, and that the South African Police Service has requested that access to the Company’s Garden be restricted from 09:00 on the day of the event.
MyCiTi Routes affected by the road closures are as follows and commuters are being advised to please make use of other bus stops in the vicinity - Those who make use of the Golden Acre bus terminus, however, will not be affected by any road closures.
